8th Grade English Course Description

8th Grade English is a year long course in which students will expand on the foundations of English Language Arts gained in the previous grade to improve and develop students’ skills as individuals and as parts of a learning community in the following areas: ● Formal writing and informal writing (Narrative, Informative, and Argumentative) ● Generate multiple argumentative research-based pieces with claim, evidence, and counter-claims ● Generate, access, and respond to multi-modal literacies across the discipline ● Independent and community reading of a variety of texts ● Critical analysis of texts ● Expanding, understanding and applying language, vocabulary, and grammar skills ● Apply strategies and skills to comprehend, respond and evaluate a variety of texts of increasing levels of difficulty, including poetry and informational research report.
