OWASSO – Owasso Choir Director and 8th Grade Center teacher Tricia Wynn has been named a recipient of the Exemplary Teacher Award by the Oklahoma Music Educators Association (OkMEA). This prestigious award recognizes career teachers who have exhibited excellent teaching and produced high-level student performances throughout their careers.

Exemplary teachers must have completed at least 15 years of active service as a music teacher and/or music administrator and been a member of OkMEA/NAfME for a minimum of 10 years. Exemplary teachers are nominated by their peers, recommended by the OkMEA Awards committee, and confirmed by the OkMEA Executive Board.

“I am so honored to have been nominated and chosen for this award,” Wynn said. “I’m blessed to be able to go to a job that I love everyday and work with the most amazing choir team and students. I’m so thankful God put me in this position and I just hope that each day I fulfill His purpose for my life through the gift of music.”

“We are incredibly proud of Ms. Wynn for receiving this prestigious honor,” OPS Superintendent Dr. Margaret Coates said. “Her dedication and intentional focus to nurturing young talent and fostering a love for music in our students is truly remarkable. This recognition is a testament to her passion, commitment and the positive impact that she has had on our school community.”

Wynn, who is the seventh OPS music teacher to earn the award since its inception in 2003, will receive the award on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the OkMEA Winter Conference in Tulsa.
